Mamata Banerjee Alleges BJP Election Fraud in West Bengal, Refuses to Step Down

Mamata Banerjee, leader of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), has alleged large-scale irregularities by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the West Bengal Assembly Election.

Despite the election results indicating a major victory for BJP, which is set to form the government in West Bengal for the first time, Mamata Banerjee has strongly rejected the outcome and stated that she will not resign from her position.

According to the results, BJP has won 207 seats, while TMC secured 80 seats, Indian National Congress (INC) won 2 seats, and other parties secured 4 seats.

Mamata Banerjee has accused BJP of manipulating electronic voting machines (EVMs) and engaging in electoral malpractice. She claimed that over 100 constituencies were “stolen” from her party and alleged that nearly 9 million voters were removed from the electoral rolls.

Addressing the media, she said that the Election Commission failed to act neutrally and instead supported BJP in carrying out these alleged irregularities. She further questioned how EVMs retained 80–90% battery charge even after voting, raising suspicions about their functioning.

Banerjee also alleged that just days before the election, opposition party members were arrested, widespread raids were conducted, and key administrative officials including IPS and IAS officers were transferred and replaced with individuals favorable to BJP.

She criticized the judiciary as well, stating that it failed to deliver justice, and described the election as one of the worst she has witnessed in her lifetime. She directly accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of undermining democracy.

These allegations have intensified political tensions, and the controversy surrounding the West Bengal election is expected to have significant national implications.
