In a significant political development following the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026, Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats.
Despite contesting independently, TVK has achieved a historic milestone by defeating the strong alliances of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), marking a major shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Notably, TVK is not part of the traditional Dravidian political structure, making its rise even more remarkable.
Following this victory, TVK has formally written to the Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, requesting an invitation to form the government.
As the party has not yet secured an absolute majority (117 seats required), Vijay has claimed the right to form the government and has assured in his letter that TVK is prepared to prove its majority within two weeks.
This move signals the beginning of crucial political developments in the state, as the formation of the new government now depends on post-election strategies and support.
TVK’s performance in its debut election has already been described as historic, and the coming days are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the future political scenario in Tamil Nadu.
