A two-day National Seminar on “Sustainable Climate Action: Scientific Insights, Technological Solutions and Social Transformation (SUCLAC)” was successfully organized in Coimbatore at Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology, marking the celebration of World Earth Day on April 21 and 22, 2026.

The seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and organized by the Department of Civil Engineering. It aimed to promote scientific awareness, technological innovation, and social responsibility in tackling climate change challenges.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences plays a crucial role in advancing research related to climate, weather, oceans, and geophysical systems. Its contributions support disaster preparedness, climate monitoring, and sustainable resource management across India.

The seminar brought together academicians, researchers, industry experts, and students, creating a strong platform for interdisciplinary discussions and practical climate solutions.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr. K. Akil, followed by the presidential address by Dr. J. Jaya. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. S. V. Srinivasan from CSIR–Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai.

Day one featured key technical sessions, including discussions on sustainable waste management, restoration of polluted lakes, land surface temperature as a climate indicator, and the role of social psychology in climate action.

On the second day, experts addressed topics such as circular economy strategies, engineering solutions for environmental protection, carbon credits and emerging technologies, and sustainable industrial waste management.

The valedictory session included the distribution of certificates and concluding remarks, marking the successful completion of the seminar.

The event witnessed participation from over 200 attendees, including students, faculty members, researchers, and environmental enthusiasts from various institutions.

This seminar highlighted the importance of collective action, innovation, and awareness in addressing climate change and promoting a sustainable future.
