WRITER SUJATHA CELEBRATED AT CHOOSE n READ LIBRARY
CHOSE SUJATHA, a round table discussion to celebrate 91st birth anniversary of writer Sujatha through narration of stories, anecdotes and thoughts
Choose n Read, Coimbatore's lending library with a legacy of 40 years organised CHOSE SUJATHA to commemorate the 91st birth anniversary of writer Sujatha. They organised a round table discussion to celebrate Sujatha (famed writer "Sujatha" Rangarajan) through narration of his stories and reflection of impact of his writings. The roundtable discussion CHOSE SUJATHA took place at Choose and Read Library, Trichy Road from 10.00 AM to 11.00 AM on Sunday, 03 May 2026.
Mr.Niyas, Propreitor, Choose n Read welcomed the participants and eulogised Sujatha for his impact in a generation of readers. He also mentioned that the library plans to conduct at least one such birthday round tables a month to celebrate reputed authors and expressed happiness in starting with Sujatha.
Mr.Neelesh, Student, Karpagam College of Pharmacy started the round table discussion. He mentioned that he got to know about Sujatha through movies and shared some dialogues that left a lasting impact from movies like Indian, Sivaji, Ayutha Ezhuthu etc. Mr.Meyappan, Partner, Asian Feeders, Coimbatore funnily narrated how he was misled by the name Sujatha. He also spoke in detail about his book titles becoming movie titles like Pirivom Santhippom, Kolaiyuthir Kalam etc.
Mr.Karthikeyan, a civil engineer, spoke about the impact Sujatha had on many people. He mentioned that even during his ride in a bike taxi to the venue, he had a valiant discussion with the captain who was also a Sujatha fan. He said he enjoyed Sujatha's question and answer sessions the most and shared a few of his favourite Sujatha replies to questions. Mr.Niyas, Choose and Read made a passionate argument that reading Sujatha requires a mindset and when you are with another Sujatha fan, this mindset multiplies exponentially.
Dr.D.Saravanamoorthy of Anna University recollected a personal anecdote of discovering a Sujatha book he borrowed 26 years ago in his attic and how the librarian was overjoyed to receive the book. He wondered how Sujatha would have written it as a story. Mr.Meenakshi Sundaram, investor and a life long fan of Sujatha elucidated that he would have felt lost in the world if not for Sujatha. He passionately narrated more than 10 books of Sujatha and how he picked up valuable lessons from them. He mentioned that Sujatha made both literature and science more accesible to the common man. He said he used to read Sujatha every day during his younger days and nowadays listens to his audio stories during walking.
Mr.Rathnavel emotinally narrated Sujatha's "Oru Laksham Butthagangal" and explained how the story left an indelible impact on him as a person. With the line "Singala Theevuku oru Paazham amaippom" from the story, he called for the need to build bridges among hearts of people.
Mr.C.R.Elangovan, well known Coimbatore historian and researcher, regaled the audience by sharing anecdotes of him meeting author Sujatha twice. He also shared a snippet from Sujatha's famous Kanaiyazhiyin Kadaisi Pakkangal where Sujatha had a quip on the Avinashi Road Flyover when it was constructed. He lauded Sujatha for bringing a refreshing change to his approach and diction when penning short stories and novels. He mentioned that Sujatha gave a lot of references of great books in his stories and how he and his friends went in pursuit of the referred books. He expressed his appreciation of his detailing skills which came so easily and naturally to him. He went on to narrate the story "Nagaram" which moved the audience. He explained how the story throws a mirror on the vulnerability of the under priviliged and the laidbackness of our systems.
Mr.Niyas thanked the participants for their participation and sought their participation in future for celebrating great authors.
