Donald Trump Claims Iran Requested Opening of Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Tensions
US President Donald Trump stated that Iran has asked to reopen the Strait of Hormuz amid internal instability, while tensions over nuclear negotiations and sanctions continue.

Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has approached the United States requesting the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, citing internal instability within the country.
In a post shared on social media, Trump stated that the Iranian government had officially conveyed that it is currently in a weakened and unstable condition. He added that Iran urged the US to reopen the crucial maritime route at the earliest, amid ongoing confusion within its leadership regarding negotiations with Washington.
Trump also expressed hope that Iran would soon resolve its internal differences surrounding talks with the United States. However, the White House has not provided clarity on who conveyed this message from Iran or whether it was delivered directly or through intermediaries.
Earlier, Iran had proposed that it would be willing to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the US lifted its naval blockade. This proposal, reportedly sent via Pakistan, also included a request to postpone discussions related to its nuclear program. The United States, however, rejected these terms.
Speaking on the issue, Marco Rubio emphasized that any agreement with Iran must ensure that the country is completely prevented from developing nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, tensions between the US and Iran were also visible at the United Nations during the ongoing review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York.
Iran was appointed as one of the vice-chairs of the conference, drawing criticism from the United States, which accused Tehran of violating nuclear regulations and refusing to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Responding to the criticism, Iran’s ambassador Reza Najafi countered that the US lacks the moral authority to question other nations while continuing to modernize its own nuclear arsenal.
The situation highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz in global energy supply and international diplomacy.
