Security Intensified at West Bengal Borders After Killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide
West Bengal Police intensifies border surveillance after the murder of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath in North 24 Parganas.
Security and surveillance have been intensified along the borders of West Bengal to prevent the escape of those involved in the murder of an aide to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari.
The incident took place on Wednesday, May 6, when Chandranath Rath, an aide to Suvendu Adhikari, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Doharia area of North 24 Parganas district.
Suvendu Adhikari had recently gained national attention after defeating Mamata Banerjee, leader of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), in the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency during the West Bengal Assembly Election.
According to BJP sources, armed attackers opened fire on Chandranath Rath before fleeing the scene.
Police have registered a case and launched an intensive investigation into the incident. As part of the operation, surveillance and search activities have been strengthened across West Bengal’s borders to ensure that the accused do not leave the state.
Senior police officials stated that the nature of the attack suggests careful planning and possible involvement of trained shooters from outside the state.
Authorities are conducting raids at multiple locations, while CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby areas has been collected for detailed analysis.
Investigators also believe that the attackers were either familiar with the local area or may have received assistance from local criminal networks. Officials stated that escaping quickly through narrow internal roads without local support would have been extremely difficult.
The murder has intensified political tensions in West Bengal and raised fresh concerns over political violence in the state following the Assembly Election results.
