Vijay to Personally Thank Communist Parties for Supporting TVK Government Formation
TVK leader Vijay is expected to personally meet CPI and CPI(M) leaders in Chennai to thank them for extending support to his bid to form the Tamil Nadu government.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay is expected to personally meet leaders of the Communist parties to thank them for supporting his attempt to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, TVK contested in 233 constituencies and secured victory in 107 seats. To form the government, Vijay requires the support of 118 MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
So far, Congress has extended support with its five MLAs, while the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have offered support with two MLAs each. With the backing of the Communist parties, TVK’s total strength has now increased to 116 MLAs.
Although nine MLAs from Congress, CPI, and CPI(M) have officially expressed support for Vijay, TVK still requires the backing of two more legislators to comfortably reach the majority mark.
The Communist parties have reportedly stated that their support to TVK is unconditional. Meanwhile, TVK functionary Nirmal Kumar personally received the support letter issued by the Communist Party of India.
The CPI announced that it was extending outside support to TVK in order to respect the democratic mandate given by the people of Tamil Nadu.
Amid these developments, reports suggest that Vijay will visit the CPI office in T. Nagar, Chennai, to personally thank the party leadership for their support.
Sources also indicate that Vijay is likely to visit the CPI(M) office afterward to express gratitude to the Marxist party leaders as well.
