US Court Declares Trump’s 10% Tariff on Global Imports Illegal
A US trade court has ruled that former President Donald Trump’s 10 percent tariff imposed on multiple countries, including India, is illegal, dealing a setback to his trade policy measures.
A United States court has ruled that the 10 percent tariff imposed by former US President Donald Trump on imports from multiple countries is illegal.
Trump had frequently used tariffs against countries including India as part of his strategy to increase American revenue and exert pressure during international trade negotiations.
Earlier this year, the US Supreme Court reportedly struck down Trump’s earlier reciprocal tariff measures imposed on several countries. Following that setback, Trump announced a fresh 10 percent tariff on imports from nations including India.
However, the US Court of International Trade has now ruled once again that Trump’s latest tariff measures against global nations are unlawful.
The ruling is considered a major setback to Trump’s trade policy approach, which relied heavily on tariffs as a tool for economic and diplomatic leverage.
Despite the judgment, reports indicate that the Trump administration is preparing to challenge the trade court’s decision by filing an appeal before the US Supreme Court.
The case is expected to draw significant international attention, especially from countries affected by the tariff measures, including India and several major global trading partners.
