MK Stalin Holds Emergency Meeting With VCK and Left Party Leaders Amid Tamil Nadu Government Formation Talks
DMK president M.K. Stalin held an urgent meeting with VCK and Left party leaders in Chennai amid ongoing political discussions over support for TVK’s bid to form the Tamil Nadu government.
DMK president M.K. Stalin held an emergency consultation with leaders of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties amid the ongoing political developments surrounding government formation in Tamil Nadu.
After emerging as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly with 108 seats, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) requires the support of 11 additional MLAs to secure a majority and form the government.
The Congress party, which contested as part of the DMK alliance and won five seats, extended its support to TVK on Tuesday. Following this, TVK reportedly sent letters seeking support from the VCK, Communist Party of India (CPI), and Communist Party of India (Marxist), each of which holds two seats in the Assembly.
Leaders of the three parties had earlier stated that a final decision regarding support would be taken after discussions within their respective executive committees.
Amid these developments, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, CPI state secretary Veerapandian, and CPI(M) state secretary Shanmugam met M.K. Stalin at his residence in Alwarpet, Chennai, for sudden political consultations.
However, it remains unclear whether the meeting was specifically held to discuss extending support to TVK for government formation.
Meanwhile, reports had surfaced on Tuesday night claiming that indirect talks were taking place between the AIADMK and DMK regarding government formation possibilities. In response to the speculation, M.K. Stalin clarified earlier today that the DMK would not act as an obstacle to TVK forming the government.
