Iran Says US Has No Authority to Impose Conditions on Sovereign Nations Amid Ongoing Tensions

Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, Iran has stated that the United States is no longer in a position to impose conditions on sovereign nations.

Following the outbreak of conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, the strategic Strait of Hormuz was closed by Iran. This move led to significant disruptions in global energy supply, making the strait a central issue in efforts to resolve the conflict.

Although a temporary ceasefire is currently in place, negotiations aimed at achieving a permanent resolution have not yet reached a conclusion.

Iran recently proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions, and reports suggest that the United States is reviewing this proposal. However, Iran has taken a firm stance on the matter.

Speaking at a security ministers’ meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Reza Talaei-Nik stated that the United States must abandon what he described as “illegal and irrational demands,” emphasizing that it cannot dictate terms to independent nations.

He also added that Iran is willing to share its defensive military capabilities with allied countries, particularly members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Donald Trump administration is unlikely to fully accept Iran’s proposal, which includes lifting sanctions in exchange for reopening the strait and ending hostilities.

Marco Rubio reiterated that any agreement with Iran must ensure that the country does not advance toward nuclear weapons development.

The White House has confirmed that the proposal has been discussed within the National Security Council, and further statements from the US leadership are expected in the coming days.
