Bay of Bengal Depression Strengthens, Heavy Rain Expected in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh
A depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a deep depression and move toward the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast, bringing heavy to very heavy rain.

The depression over the Bay of Bengal has strengthened from a low-pressure area and is expected to intensify further into a deep depression, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As of the morning of September 22, the system was located approximately 220 km southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha, around 220 km south-southeast of Puri and about 320 km east of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The system is expected to continue moving west-northwestward and is likely to cross the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur from the night of September 23 to the early hours of September 24 as a deep depression.
Under its influence, southern Odisha and northern coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Rough sea conditions are also expected, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
According to the current IMD forecast, the system has a relatively low likelihood of intensifying into a cyclonic storm.
