Coimbatore Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand to Get ₹35 Crore Modern Makeover
Coimbatore's Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand, operational since 1971, is set for a ₹35-crore redevelopment with a new terminal, parking for 2,014 two-wheelers, shops, ticket counters, and modern passenger facilities.

Coimbatore's Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand, which has been serving passengers since 1971, is set for a major transformation with plans to demolish the existing facility and construct a modern bus terminal at an estimated cost of ₹35 crore.
The redevelopment project aims to significantly improve passenger facilities and create a more efficient environment for bus operations at one of Coimbatore's busiest and most important transport hubs.
During the construction period, a temporary bus stand is planned near the Coimbatore Central Prison to ensure that bus services can continue with minimal disruption. The temporary facility is expected to accommodate bus operations while the existing terminal is being redeveloped.
The proposed new Gandhipuram bus terminal will include several modern passenger amenities. The plan includes parking facilities for around 2,014 two-wheelers, 45 shops, ticket counters, and other essential facilities designed to improve convenience for daily commuters and visitors.
The redevelopment is expected to provide a more organised transportation environment while addressing the growing passenger and vehicle requirements of the city. Improved infrastructure at the terminal could also contribute to smoother movement of buses and better passenger management.
The ₹35-crore project marks a significant step towards modernising Coimbatore's public transport infrastructure. Once completed, the new Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand is expected to offer improved facilities and a more comfortable travel experience for thousands of passengers using the terminal every day.
