ORU PAKKA KATHAI winners honoured by Rotary at Coimbatore Book Festival 2026

The prize distribution ceremony of ORU PAKKA KATHAI 2026 was conducted at C Hall, Coimbatore Book Festival 2026 from 12.30 Noon to 01.00 PM on Thursday, 23 July 2026. ORU PAKKA KATHAI  is an annual Inter collegiate short story writing competition conducted by Rotary E-Club of Coimbatore Changemakers and Arivukeni, Coimbatore Book Festival 2026. 

The competition launched on 03 July 2026 was facilitated through the online web portal orupakkakathai.in. A total of 722 students from 34 institutions had participated in the competition by posting their stories in the web portal. The stories were in Tamil and ran to maximum of 2 pages and 600 characters. The students submitted the stories of different genres with only commonality of two words Covai and Puthagam in all of them. The story submission was done till 18 July 2026. 

A team of six judges evaluated the stories and came up with six prize winners . All 722 participants were provided with participation certificates. The prize winners are as follows

I Place - ANANTHI A, Government College of Technology
II Place - HARI VARMAN E, PSG College of Technology
III Place - MAHIMA P.S., Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology

1 Naveen Srikanth M, Sree Ramakrishna Engineering College
2 Dhivya S R, Bharathiyar University
3 Saroumathy Ramya S, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women

AVP College of Arts and Science, Tirupur was accorded with a special shield in recognition of contributing maximum participation among institutions. 

The winners were provided with cash prize, certificates and books . The total prize money was worth Rs 10000. The prize distribution ceremony took place in the presence of Mr.Rajesh, Chairperson, Coimbatore Book Festival 2026, Mr.Muthukumar, Vice-Chairperson, Coimbatore Book Festival 2026 and Mr.C.R.Elangovan, Coordinator, Coimbatore Book Festival 2026. 

Rtn.S.G.Swaminathan, District Director, RI District 3206 was invited as a Special Guest. He read out a poem in honour of the event. Along with the leaders of Coimbatore Book Festival 2026, he distributed prizes to the winners.  The prize winners thanked the organizing committee for providing them an opportunity to hone their story telling and Tamil writing skills. Rtn.Prabhakar, Rtn.Nisar, Rtn.Prasath, Rtn.Karthikeyan and Rtn.Rathnavel organized the event on behalf of Rotary E-Club of Coimbatore Changemakers.
