Iran Attacks Ships in Strait of Hormuz Despite US Ceasefire Extension Announcement

Iran has reportedly carried out attacks on two commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, even as Donald Trump announced an extension of the temporary ceasefire to allow time for peace talks between the two nations.

The ceasefire extension was intended to create space for diplomatic negotiations following earlier failed discussions held in Pakistan. However, tensions escalated after reports emerged that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard forces opened fire on a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to the vessel.

According to reports, the ship’s captain stated that an armed patrol boat approached and fired upon the vessel, damaging its bridge. Fortunately, no fire or environmental damage was reported. In a separate incident, another vessel was also reportedly attacked in the same region, as confirmed by British Armed Forces.

Iran has not officially acknowledged responsibility for the attacks. However, local media reports suggested that the action was taken after the vessel allegedly ignored warnings issued by Iranian armed forces.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global trade route, handling over 20% of the world’s oil supply, and any disruption in the region raises serious concerns about global energy security and maritime safety.
