Coimbatore RTO Cracks Down on Illegal High-Decibel Air Horns, Fines Violators

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Coimbatore has intensified enforcement against vehicles fitted with illegal high-decibel air horns that exceed the permissible noise limits. The special inspection drive targeted both government and private vehicles using unauthorized air horns that contribute to noise pollution.

During the operation, RTO officials inspected several vehicles across Coimbatore and identified multiple violations involving high-noise air horns. Fines were imposed on vehicle owners and operators found violating the Motor Vehicles Rules and noise pollution regulations.

Officials stated that excessive noise from illegal air horns causes inconvenience to the public and poses a threat to road safety by disturbing pedestrians, school zones, hospitals, and other motorists. The use of such air horns is prohibited except in vehicles specifically authorized under law.

The Coimbatore RTO has warned that similar surprise inspections will continue across the district to ensure strict compliance with traffic and environmental regulations. Vehicle owners have been advised to remove unauthorized air horns and follow the prescribed decibel limits to avoid penalties while helping reduce noise pollution in the city.
