Coimbatore to Launch Modern Food Streets at Four Key Locations
Coimbatore Corporation is set to establish modern Food Streets at four locations, providing hygienic food vending facilities, improved infrastructure, and upgraded amenities for street vendors.
The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is set to establish dedicated Food Streets across the city to promote hygienic food preparation, improve public health standards, and enhance the overall street food experience.
As part of the initiative, four locations have been identified for the project: the Coimbatore Police Quarters area, Gandhi Park, VOC Ground, and the Ukkadam–Periyakulam region.
The proposed Food Streets aim to provide residents and visitors with safe, hygienically prepared, and quality food in a well-organized environment while supporting the livelihood of local street food vendors.
Under the project, all existing pushcart and street food vendors operating in the selected areas will be accommodated within a modernized Food Street setup. Vendors will be provided with standardized stalls, improved infrastructure, sanitation facilities, waste management systems, and aesthetically designed food kiosks.
The initiative is expected to improve food safety standards, ensure better hygiene practices, and create a cleaner dining environment for customers while offering vendors a permanent and well-equipped place to conduct their business.
The Food Street project also aims to enhance Coimbatore's urban landscape by creating attractive public food zones that can serve as popular destinations for residents and tourists alike.
Once implemented, the initiative is expected to boost local businesses, promote safe and healthy food practices, and contribute to the city's ongoing urban development and beautification efforts.
