Digital Arrest Scam Alert: Beware of Fake Police and CBI Video Calls
A new cyber fraud known as the “Digital Arrest” scam is targeting people through fake video calls made by fraudsters posing as police officers, CBI officials and other law enforcement authorities.
In this scam, criminals use video calls to intimidate victims, falsely accuse them of being involved in illegal activities and demand money to avoid supposed arrest or legal action.
It is important to remember that there is no legal procedure called “Digital Arrest” in the police or criminal justice system.
People receiving such calls should immediately disconnect the call and should not share bank account details, OTPs, passwords, Aadhaar information or other personal and financial details. They should also never transfer money based on threats or instructions received during such calls.
If you become a victim of cyber fraud or lose money, report the incident immediately by calling the national cybercrime helpline at 1930.
Stay alert, verify suspicious calls independently and remember: genuine law enforcement authorities do not conduct arrests or demand money through video calls.
