Chennai Super Kings have appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their new head coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League season.
Zaheer Khan replaces Stephen Fleming, bringing an end to Fleming’s long association with the franchise. Fleming had served as CSK’s head coach since 2009, with his association with the team spanning 18 years. He previously joined CSK as a player in 2008 before taking over as head coach the following year.
The appointment marks Zaheer Khan’s first head-coaching role with an IPL franchise. He brings extensive experience in cricket administration and player development, having worked with Mumbai Indians in senior cricket operations and later served as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants.
Zaheer represented India in 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is. He was part of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team and finished that tournament as India’s leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets.
His appointment makes him the first Indian to take charge as CSK’s head coach. The franchise officially announced the move on September 21, 2026, as it begins preparations for IPL 2027.
