Rain Alert Issued for 4 Tamil Nadu Districts as Low Pressure Area Forms Over Bay of Bengal
The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast rain with thunderstorms in four Tamil Nadu districts and Karaikal over the next two hours due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for four districts in Tamil Nadu over the next two hours due to a developing low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the weather department, the low-pressure system formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the northern Sri Lankan coast continues to persist in the same region and is expected to strengthen further today (May 13).
An atmospheric trough is also extending from the center of the low-pressure system to the southern Lakshadweep region through south Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had stated that due to the atmospheric circulation prevailing over the Lakshadweep region and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea near the Kerala coast, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at isolated places across south Tamil Nadu, delta districts, and Karaikal on Tuesday (May 12).
In its latest update, the Chennai Meteorological Department said that light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over the next two hours, until 10 AM, in the districts of Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, and the Karaikal region.
Residents in the affected districts have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and possible sudden weather changes.
