Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by 3 wickets in a tense IPL 2026 encounter to keep their playoff hopes alive after strong performances from Axar Patel and David Miller.
Delhi Capitals (DC) kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a hard-fought 3-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 55th match of the season on Monday.
Facing elimination pressure, Delhi managed to survive with a tense chase, while Punjab Kings continued their poor run after suffering a fourth consecutive defeat despite once dominating the top of the points table.
Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a challenging total of 210 runs after several key contributions from the batting lineup.
Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for 15 runs after hitting 3 boundaries, following which captain Shreyas Iyer joined Priyansh Arya at the crease.
Priyansh played an aggressive innings and smashed 56 runs with 2 boundaries and 6 sixes before getting dismissed.
Cooper Connolly then partnered with Shreyas Iyer and the duo stabilized the innings with an important 83-run partnership for the third wicket.
Connolly scored 38 runs, including 3 boundaries and 2 sixes, before being dismissed. Marcus Stoinis managed only 1 run, while Shashank Singh was dismissed for a duck.
At the end of the innings, Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 59 runs, hitting 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. Suryansh Shedge also provided valuable late runs with an unbeaten 21 featuring 2 boundaries and 2 sixes.
For Delhi Capitals, Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc picked up two wickets each, while Mukesh Kumar claimed one wicket.
Chasing a target of 211, Delhi Capitals suffered a poor start as Abishek Porel, KL Rahul, Sahil Barak, and Tristan Stubbs were dismissed cheaply.
Delhi found themselves struggling at 74 for 4 before captain Axar Patel and David Miller rescued the innings with a crucial 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Axar Patel played a captain’s knock, scoring 56 runs with 8 boundaries and 2 sixes, while David Miller smashed 51 runs, including 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Ashutosh Sharma added a quick 24 runs with 2 boundaries and 2 sixes to keep Delhi in the chase.
In the final stages, Madhav Tiwari remained unbeaten on 18, while Aqib Nabi stayed not out on 10 to guide Delhi Capitals to a thrilling victory.
For Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh and Yash Thakur picked up two wickets each, while Ben Dwarshuis and Marcus Stoinis claimed one wicket apiece.
