Chennai Super Kings suffered a crucial defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026, significantly reducing their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
The 63rd match of the ongoing IPL season was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After winning the toss, Chennai Super Kings opted to bat first.
Batting first, CSK posted a total of 180/7 in their 20 overs. Dewald Brevis was the top scorer for Chennai with 44 runs, while Karthik Sharma contributed 32 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking 3 wickets. Saqib Hussain also played a key role with the ball by claiming 2 wickets.
Chasing a target of 181 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad comfortably reached 181/5 in just 19 overs. Ishan Kishan starred with a brilliant innings of 70 runs, while Heinrich Klaasen added a valuable 47 runs to guide the team to victory.
For Chennai Super Kings, Mukesh Choudhary was the standout bowler with 2 wickets.
With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans officially qualified for the IPL playoffs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru had already secured their playoff spot earlier.
