The Tamil Nadu Forest Department is planning to open the newly upgraded **Chadivayal Elephant Camp**, located near the scenic Siruvani foothills in Coimbatore, as a public tourist attraction. The proposal aims to transform the elephant camp into one of the city's newest eco-tourism destinations while promoting wildlife conservation and environmental awareness.
If the proposal receives approval, visitors will have the opportunity to witness captive elephants being fed, bathed, and cared for by trained mahouts, offering a rare and educational wildlife experience. The initiative is expected to provide tourists with a closer understanding of elephant care, rehabilitation, and conservation practices followed by the Forest Department.
Officials believe the project will strengthen Coimbatore's tourism sector by attracting nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, students, and families. In addition to boosting eco-tourism, the initiative is intended to create greater public awareness about the importance of elephant welfare, habitat conservation, and the protection of India's rich biodiversity.
Once approved, the Chadivayal Elephant Camp is expected to become one of Coimbatore's must-visit destinations, combining nature, wildlife, and conservation education in the foothills of the Western Ghats.
