The Tamil Nadu government has launched a new pilgrimage scheme for senior citizens, benefiting 2.5 lakh people annually with fully arranged travel, accommodation, food, and safety measures. A budget of ₹20 crore has been allocated for the initiative.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced a new pilgrimage scheme for senior citizens, enabling around 2.5 lakh elderly people to undertake visits to their preferred places of worship every year with complete support from the government.
Under the scheme, the government will make comprehensive travel arrangements, allowing beneficiaries to visit selected pilgrimage destinations without financial or logistical concerns. The initiative aims to make spiritual travel safe, comfortable, and accessible for senior citizens across the state.
As part of the programme, participants will be provided with transportation, accommodation, and meals throughout their journey. Special arrangements will also be made to ensure a safe, hassle-free, and well-organised pilgrimage experience for all beneficiaries.
To implement the scheme, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated ₹20 crore. The initiative reflects the state's commitment to enhancing the welfare and well-being of senior citizens by supporting their spiritual and cultural aspirations.
The new pilgrimage programme is expected to benefit thousands of elderly citizens each year while promoting inclusive welfare and ensuring that senior citizens can undertake religious journeys with dignity, comfort, and government support.
