Stock Market Opens Higher: Sensex Gains Over 400 Points, Nifty Above 24,460
Indian stock markets open on a positive note with Sensex rising over 400 points and Nifty crossing 24,460 amid strong banking sector performance.
Indian stock markets opened on a positive note on April 20, with both the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 trading higher during the morning session. The Sensex began the day at 78,632.90 and, by around 11:30 AM, had gained 410.13 points to reach 78,903.55.
Similarly, the Nifty 50 rose by 109.05 points to trade at 24,462.60, reflecting positive investor sentiment at the start of the week. The broader market indices also showed gains, with midcap and smallcap indices rising by 0.27% and 0.09% respectively.
Among the Sensex stocks, gains were seen in State Bank of India, Trent, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Asian Paints, Adani Ports and Sun Pharma. On the other hand, IT stocks such as HCLTech, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Tech Mahindra traded lower.
Sector-wise, real estate, PSU banks, and private banks showed strong performance, while oil & gas and metal stocks witnessed declines. Meanwhile, global factors continued to influence sentiment, with crude oil prices hovering around $95.54 per barrel.
The Indian rupee was trading at 92.82 against the US dollar, reflecting ongoing currency fluctuations in the global market.
