Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Revokes Appointment of Astrologer Radhan Pandit as OSD After Political Backlash

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Wednesday revoked the appointment of astrologer and TVK spokesperson Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (Political) to the Chief Minister following widespread criticism from opposition parties and alliance leaders.

The decision came just a day after the appointment triggered political controversy, with several parties arguing that personal beliefs should not influence governance and administrative appointments.

Shortly after the Assembly floor test concluded, the Tamil Nadu government issued an official circular announcing the cancellation of the appointment.

The government order stated:

“The orders issued regarding the appointment of Thiru. Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister (Political) vide in the reference 2nd cited is hereby revoked.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Vijay-led government had officially appointed Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (Political) through an order issued by the Principal Secretary to the Government.

According to the earlier government circular, Vettrivel was expected to function as a political aide to Chief Minister Vijay and assist in political coordination and advisory matters within the Chief Minister’s Office.

Rickey Radhan Pandit Vettrivel is widely known in political and media circles as an astrologer closely associated with Vijay.

Over the past few years, he has frequently appeared alongside the actor-turned-politician during important political events and personal occasions.

Following the launch of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vettrivel was appointed as one of the party’s official spokespersons and became actively involved in defending the party’s positions in television debates and public discussions.

Political observers consider him part of Vijay’s trusted inner circle and someone who has played a role in political communication and coordination since the formation of TVK.

However, the appointment drew sharp criticism from opposition leaders as well as some allies, who questioned the decision to appoint an astrologer to an official advisory role within the government.

Amid mounting political pressure and public debate, the Tamil Nadu government ultimately decided to revoke the appointment within 24 hours of issuing the order.
