Tamil Nadu Heatwave Intensifies: Vellore Records 107.96°F, Highest This Season
Tamil Nadu faces intense heatwave as Vellore records 107.96°F. Several districts cross 100°F despite recent rainfall.
Tamil Nadu is experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures rising sharply across several districts. After a brief relief due to scattered rainfall over the weekend, the heat has intensified again across the state.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai, Vellore recorded the highest temperature of 107.96°F, marking the first instance this year where such extreme heat has been recorded in the state. It also stands as one of the hottest April days in the past five years.
Several other districts also recorded temperatures above 100°F. Karur (Paramathi) and Erode reported 105.08°F, Namakkal recorded 104°F, while Dharmapuri, Tiruppattur, Tiruchirappalli, and Tiruttani also crossed 102°F.
Cities like Madurai and Palayamkottai recorded temperatures around 101°F.
Although light rainfall was reported recently in areas like Sattur, Tiruttani, Uthamapalayam, Kodi, and Perambalur, and even parts of Chennai experienced brief showers, the relief was short-lived.
The return of intense heat just a day after rainfall has disappointed residents, who were expecting a few days of cooler weather. Meteorologists warn that the heatwave conditions may continue, urging people to take necessary precautions against extreme temperatures.
