Coimbatore Closes 68 TASMAC Shops Near Schools, Temples and Bus Stands

Following the directive issued by Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, authorities have intensified action to shut down TASMAC liquor shops located near educational institutions, temples, and bus stands across Tamil Nadu.

In Coimbatore district, a total of 284 TASMAC outlets operate under the North and South zones. Among them, officials identified 69 shops for closure, including 48 outlets in the North Zone and 21 in the South Zone.

According to district administration officials, four TASMAC shops were shut down immediately on the very first day after the government announcement.

Authorities have now confirmed that 68 out of the identified 69 liquor shops have been completely closed.

Officials also stated that necessary steps are being taken to shut down the remaining outlet at the earliest.

The move is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s wider initiative aimed at public welfare and reducing the presence of liquor outlets near sensitive public locations such as schools, places of worship, and transport hubs.
