Emotional Wellness Takes Centre Stage at ILS Coimbatore

The Institute of Liberal Studies (ILS), Coimbatore, conducted its Session 58 Proceedings 19 from 4 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Thulasi Pharmacy, R.S. Puram.

The session began with the organisation's signature "Minute a Member" programme, where each member gets two minutes to share their knowledge and insights. The programme was chaired by Adv. Asokan, Patron and EC Member. During the session, 13 members shared their thoughts on a wide range of topics, including Legal Documentation of Assets, Studying MBBS Abroad, Onam Festivities in Colleges, the GD Naidu movie and Organ Donation.

The session was followed by an interactive and inspiring guest lecture by Ms. Lakshmi Menon, a certified counselling psychologist and life coach. Her session, titled "Emotional Wellness", focused on important aspects of emotional well-being, including Anger Management, Mindfulness and Laughter Therapy.

Ms. Lakshmi Menon began by engaging the members in a discussion about the meaning and nature of anger. She explained that anger is an emotion and highlighted practical ways to manage and control it. She also demonstrated an anger reversal technique, which was well received and appreciated by the members.

The session then moved towards the concept of mindfulness. Ms. Menon encouraged members to reflect on situations where they felt they could have applied more "mind over matter". Drawing from the personal experiences and anecdotes shared by the participants, she explained mindfulness in a simple, practical and effective manner.

She concluded the session by introducing the fundamentals of laughter therapy and explaining its key features and easy application in everyday life.

The interactive nature of the lecture and Ms. Lakshmi Menon's passion for promoting emotional wellness were highly appreciated by the members of ILS.

As a mark of appreciation, Mr. Ramakrishnan, Chairperson, ILS, and Mr. Muthu, Advisor, ILS, presented a memento to Ms. Lakshmi Menon. Mr. Prashanth, Director, proposed the vote of thanks.

The session provided ILS members with valuable insights into emotional wellness and practical techniques that can be incorporated into everyday life.
