Anna University in Association with Rotary Conducts 20-Day Summer Sports Camp for Children
Anna University Regional Campus Coimbatore successfully organised a free 20-day summer sports coaching camp for children aged 11 to 17, offering training in six different sports disciplines.
The Department of Physical Education at Anna University Regional Campus Coimbatore (AURCC) successfully organised a free 20-day summer sports coaching camp for children aged between 11 and 17 years.
The camp was conducted at the university premises from May 1, 2026, to May 20, 2026, with the aim of encouraging young students to actively participate in sports and physical fitness activities.
A total of 25 students participated in the camp and received training in six sports disciplines including cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, and yoga. Participants were introduced to the fundamental techniques of all six sports and later trained in the discipline of their choice.
The training sessions were conducted by certified coaches and sports scholars. The camp was held daily from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM for 20 consecutive days. Importantly, the entire coaching programme was offered free of cost to all participants.
In addition to sports coaching, the camp also included expert guidance sessions focusing on mental preparation and sports psychology. Dr. J. Komala Lakshmi and Dr. K. Muthukumar delivered valuable lectures and shared insights with the students during these sessions.
The initiative received major support from the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Vadavalli, and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Changemakers, who served as principal supporters. Vasavi Club of Pollachi, Paal.co, and the State Bank of India also contributed as associate sponsors to help ensure the successful conduct of the programme.
The summer camp was inaugurated on May 1, 2026, by Dr. M. Rajkumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Physical Education at Bharathiar University.
The valedictory function was held on May 20, 2026, under the guidance of Dr. Saravana Kumar, Dean of AURCC, and in the presence of Rotary leaders including Rtn Godwin Maria Visuvasam, Rtn Saravanan Gandhi, and Rtn Rathnavel.
During the closing ceremony, Dr. Rathinasamy of AURCC and SAI-certified coach Mr. Rathnavel Pandian delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates and jerseys to the participants.
The overall arrangements for the camp were coordinated by Dr. D. Saravanamoorthy, Director of Physical Education at AURCC, and Dr. Shanmuga Priya, Assistant Director of Physical Education.
Dr. Saravanamoorthy stated that the camp has been organised successfully for the third consecutive year since 2024. He added that the main objective of the initiative is to engage children in sports activities by providing quality coaching completely free of charge.
He also thanked the participants, parents, coaches, sponsors, Dean Dr. Saravana Kumar, and the student volunteers for their support in making the programme a success.
