‘Singappen’ Special Task Force Begins Operations in Coimbatore District
The newly formed ‘Singappen’ Special Task Force, launched to enhance women's safety and security, has officially commenced operations in Coimbatore district with advanced surveillance and patrol measures.
The ‘Singappen’ Special Task Force, a dedicated women's safety unit introduced by the Tamil Nadu government, has officially begun operations in Coimbatore district.
The initiative has been launched with the primary objective of enhancing the safety and security of women in public spaces through proactive monitoring, rapid response, and preventive policing measures.
The special force will focus on preventing crimes against women, including harassment, stalking, eve-teasing, public misconduct, kidnapping attempts, and other offences that threaten women's safety. Officers will conduct regular patrols in busy public areas, educational institutions, transport hubs, shopping centers, and other sensitive locations.
As part of the initiative, the force is equipped with modern surveillance technologies and specialized vehicles to strengthen monitoring and emergency response capabilities. The deployment is expected to complement the existing law enforcement framework and improve public confidence in women's safety.
The launch of the Singappen Special Task Force in Coimbatore is part of a broader statewide effort to create safer public spaces and ensure quicker intervention in cases involving women and girls.
Officials believe the initiative will play a key role in crime prevention by increasing police visibility and enabling faster action against offenders before incidents escalate.
With Coimbatore being one of Tamil Nadu's largest urban centers and a major educational and industrial hub, the commencement of Singappen operations is expected to significantly strengthen women's safety measures across the district.
The program reflects the government's commitment to creating a secure environment where women can travel, work, study, and participate in public life with greater confidence and freedom.
