A total of 544 students have benefited from the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) virtual laboratory functioning at Masakkalipalayam Corporation Middle School under the East Zone of the Coimbatore Corporation over the past three months, according to the Corporation.
The AR/VR laboratory has been introduced to help students understand complex concepts in subjects such as Science, Mathematics and Social Science through three-dimensional visualizations and immersive virtual experiences. The technology-based learning approach enables students to explore lesson concepts through visual and virtual experiences, making difficult topics easier to understand.
A total of 132 virtual learning sessions were conducted at the school between June and August. The laboratory conducted 45 sessions in June, followed by 52 sessions in July and 35 sessions in August.
Students from Classes 1 to 8 participated in these virtual learning sessions and benefited from the AR/VR-based learning activities. The sessions were conducted as part of the school's learning process, with teachers using digital equipment to explain various lessons.
Teachers use smart displays, VR headsets and controllers while conducting the sessions. These devices help teachers provide students with visual and virtual representations of the concepts being taught in the classroom.
The AR/VR laboratory provides students with an opportunity to experience lessons beyond conventional classroom explanations. By combining three-dimensional visuals with virtual experiences, the laboratory is being used to support students in understanding concepts across different subjects.
The Coimbatore Corporation has also stated that student safety and hygiene are being given importance during the use of VR equipment. The VR devices are properly cleaned and maintained after use to ensure they are ready for subsequent learning sessions.
With 132 virtual learning sessions conducted over three months and 544 students benefiting from the facility, the AR/VR laboratory at Masakkalipalayam Corporation Middle School is being used as a technology-enabled learning facility for students from Classes 1 to 8.
