Coimbatore: BIS Seizes Non-ISI Helmets, Case Filed Against Shop Owner
BIS officials seized substandard non-ISI helmets during a surprise inspection in Coimbatore and registered a case against the shop owner.
In a major crackdown on the sale of substandard safety gear, officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a surprise inspection in Coimbatore and seized helmets that did not carry ISI certification marks.
The raid was carried out following complaints regarding the sale of low-quality helmets that failed to meet mandatory safety standards. During the inspection, officials identified several helmets without proper ISI markings being sold to customers.
Authorities stated that selling non-ISI certified helmets is a violation of safety regulations and poses a serious risk to motorists and two-wheeler riders.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered against the shop owner for allegedly selling uncertified and substandard helmets.
Officials also warned traders and retailers against selling fake or unapproved safety products and said further inspections would continue across the district.
Consumers have been advised to purchase only ISI-certified helmets to ensure proper protection while riding and to verify certification marks before buying safety equipment.
