Heavy Rain Likely Across Tamil Nadu for the Next Two Days, Says Weather Department
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorms across several districts in Tamil Nadu over the next few days due to atmospheric circulation and trough conditions over the region.
The Meteorological Department has announced that several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive heavy rainfall today and tomorrow due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over the region.
According to officials, an atmospheric circulation is currently present over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining areas at an altitude of around 1.5 km above sea level. In addition, a trough extending from North Interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar through Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu is also influencing weather conditions.
On May 6 and 7, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely at isolated places in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari.
The weather department further stated that from May 8 to May 11, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds may continue in several districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, and Karaikal.
On May 12, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions.
Meanwhile, the department has also forecast a gradual drop in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between May 6 and May 10.
