The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across parts of Tamil Nadu on July 3 and 4, with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds expected in several districts.

According to the latest weather bulletin, from June 30 to July 2, isolated places in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h. South Tamil Nadu is also expected to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms at isolated locations.

On July 3, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the hilly regions of Coimbatore district, the Nilgiris, and Theni district. These areas may also experience thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.

The rest of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

On July 4, heavy rain is forecast for isolated places in the hilly regions of Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, and Kanniyakumari district. Other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms.

The weather department has stated that there is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between June 30 and July 4.

For Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on June 30, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms likely in some parts of the city during the evening or night. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 38°C and 39°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 28°C and 29°C.

The IMD has also issued a fishermen warning. From June 30 to July 2, strong winds of 40 to 50 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h, are expected over the Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjoining Kanyakumari Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these sea areas during the warning period due to rough weather conditions.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
