Rescue and search operations have intensified following the devastating flash floods in Nepal. More than 11,000 people have been rescued so far, while the death toll has risen to 939, according to authorities. Around 4,000 people are still reported missing.
The flash floods were triggered by an ice and rock slide near the Nepal–Tibet border on August 26, causing widespread destruction across several parts of northern and central Nepal. Homes, roads, bridges and hydropower projects have suffered extensive damage.
More than 22,000 security personnel have been deployed for rescue and relief operations, with helicopters also being used to reach affected and remote areas. Experts from India and China are reportedly assisting in efforts to rescue workers trapped at hydropower projects.
Rescue operations continue across the affected regions, with authorities facing the major challenge of locating and rescuing thousands of people who remain missing.
