India Win Women’s Asia Cup 2026, Decline Trophy Presentation From Pakistan Official
India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs to win their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title, while the team did not attend the trophy presentation involving ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi.

India Women were crowned champions of the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai. The victory saw India claim their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
Batting first, India posted an imposing 183/5 in 20 overs. Shafali Verma top-scored with 68 runs, while Smriti Mandhana contributed a crucial 59. In response, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111, giving India a comprehensive 72-run victory.
Trophy Presentation Creates Controversy
Despite winning the title, the Indian women’s team did not receive the trophy and medals from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi during the presentation ceremony.
Naqvi is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Indian team did not participate in the presentation ceremony conducted in his presence.
According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the decision had been communicated to the ACC before the tournament. The BCCI had informed the governing body in advance that the Indian team would not receive the trophy from Naqvi, citing the prevailing circumstances.
The incident has also brought back memories of the stance taken by the Indian men’s team during last year’s Asia Cup final, when the trophy presentation similarly became a point of controversy.
India secured the championship on the field, but the trophy presentation added another talking point to the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final.
