The Meteorological Department has forecast a rise in temperatures across Tamil Nadu till May 30, while heavy rain is expected in seven districts today.

The Meteorological Department has announced that temperatures across parts of Tamil Nadu may rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius until May 30, while heavy rainfall is likely in seven districts today.

According to the weather department, an upper air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining regions at an altitude ranging from 3.1 km to 7.6 km above sea level.

Another cyclonic circulation is also present over the central-west Bay of Bengal and nearby areas at similar atmospheric levels.

Heavy Rain Forecast for 7 Districts

Due to these weather systems, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely today (May 26) at isolated places in:

  • Nilgiris
  • Erode
  • Salem
  • Theni
  • Dindigul
  • Hill areas of Coimbatore district
  • Hill areas of Tiruppur district

From May 27 to May 30, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Temperature Expected to Rise

The weather department stated that there is no major change expected in maximum temperatures over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions during the next few days.

However, temperatures in interior districts of Tamil Nadu may rise by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at isolated locations.

High humidity combined with rising temperatures may also cause discomfort in several coastal regions.

Temperature Records

During the last 24 hours:

  • Vellore recorded the highest temperature at 42.3°C
  • Karur Paramathi recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 24.0°C
  • Kodaikanal recorded 13.2°C

Chennai Weather

For Chennai and surrounding suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today and tomorrow.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 40°C to 41°C, while minimum temperatures may remain around 29°C to 30°C.

Residents may experience heat-related discomfort due to high humidity levels.

Fishermen Warning

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning for fishermen.

From May 26 to May 30, strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and gusts reaching up to 60 kmph are likely over:

  • Tamil Nadu coastal areas
  • Gulf of Mannar
  • Comorin Sea regions

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these sea areas during the warning period.
