Tourist Restrictions Imposed Near Berijam Lake After Tiger Sightings in Kodaikanal
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has restricted tourist entry near Berijam Lake in Kodaikanal after multiple tigers were spotted roaming in the forest area near the popular tourist destination.
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has imposed restrictions on tourist entry near Berijam Lake in Kodaikanal following recent tiger sightings in the forest region.
Berijam Lake, located in Dindigul district, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kodaikanal and draws visitors from nearby districts as well as other states. Tourists are normally required to obtain special permission from the Forest Department to access the lake and surrounding forest areas.
The restrictions were introduced after a video recorded by tourists surfaced online showing three tigers roaming freely inside the forest area near the lake. The video quickly gained attention and raised safety concerns among visitors and officials.
In response to the sightings, forest authorities increased monitoring in the region and temporarily limited tourist access to ensure public safety and avoid disturbance to the wildlife habitat.
Officials have advised tourists to strictly follow forest department guidelines and avoid entering restricted zones until further notice. Forest staff are continuing surveillance operations in the area to monitor tiger movement and assess the situation.
