Two US Navy fighter jets were involved in a mid-air collision during an air show held on Sunday near the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, United States.
The accident occurred during the final day of the “Gunfighter Skies” air show, a popular aviation event known for military aerial demonstrations and stunt performances.
According to officials, two EA-18G fighter aircraft belonging to the US Navy collided head-on while performing aerial maneuvers during the show.
All four pilots aboard the two aircraft managed to safely eject using parachutes before the jets crashed to the ground. Authorities confirmed that all four pilots survived the accident and are currently in stable condition.
The crashed aircraft caught fire after hitting the ground, prompting emergency response teams to rush to the scene. Following the incident, the air show was immediately halted and the air force base was temporarily closed.
US defense officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
The “Gunfighter Skies” event has previously witnessed accidents. During the 2018 edition of the air show, a pilot operating a floatplane lost his life in a crash.
