Ancient Child Skeletons and Rare Artifacts Unearthed in Molapalayam Excavation Near Coimbatore
Two child skeletons, shell beads, terracotta artifacts, oil lamps, and Neolithic tools have been discovered during an archaeological excavation at Molapalayam in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu.

A significant archaeological discovery has been made at Molapalayam in Coimbatore district, where an ongoing excavation funded by the Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology has uncovered ancient human remains and a range of historical artifacts.
Among the key findings are the skeletal remains of two children, along with shell beads, terracotta objects, and an ancient oil lamp. These discoveries provide valuable insights into the lifestyle, culture, and burial practices of the people who once inhabited the region.
Archaeologists have also identified urn-shaped pit dwellings, various types of pits, post holes used for wooden structures, and pottery fragments. These findings suggest the existence of a well-organized settlement with established residential and social structures.
In addition, the excavation has yielded Neolithic stone tools, grinding stones, and grain remains, indicating that the ancient inhabitants practiced agriculture and food processing. The presence of these artifacts highlights the technological and economic activities of the community.
Researchers believe the discoveries will contribute significantly to understanding the prehistoric and early historic periods of western Tamil Nadu. Further analysis of the artifacts and human remains is expected to reveal more details about the age, culture, and daily life of the ancient settlement at Molapalayam.
