Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in IPL Match 24, chasing 196 with ease as Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer deliver match-winning performances.
Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in the 24th match of the IPL, successfully chasing down a target of 196 runs in just 16.3 overs. Mumbai Indians had earlier posted 195 for 6 in their 20 overs, but Punjab delivered a dominant batting performance to seal the win on Mumbai’s home ground.
For Mumbai, Quinton de Kock played a sensational unbeaten innings of 112 runs off 60 balls, hitting 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. Naman Dhir supported him well with a solid 50 runs, as the duo built a crucial 122-run partnership. However, early wickets, including Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav, put Mumbai under pressure at the start. Captain Hardik Pandya scored 14 runs, while others failed to make a significant impact.
For Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh picked up 3 wickets, while Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh took one wicket each.
In response, Punjab got off to a steady start, with Priyansh Arya scoring 15 runs. Prabhsimran Singh then took charge of the innings with an explosive knock, while Josh Inglis (referred here as Cooper Connolly in some lineups) contributed 17 runs.
Captain Shreyas Iyer joined Prabhsimran and the pair built a match-winning 139-run partnership for the third wicket. Iyer scored a brilliant 66 runs off 35 balls, including 5 boundaries and 4 sixes, before getting out.
Prabhsimran Singh remained unbeaten on 80 runs off 39 balls, smashing 11 boundaries and 2 sixes, guiding Punjab Kings to a comfortable victory. Marcus Stoinis stayed not out on 10 runs to finish the chase.
For Mumbai Indians, Shams Mulani (referred as Ghazanfar in reports) picked up 2 wickets, while Shardul Thakur took one wicket, but they were unable to stop Punjab’s dominant chase.
