Indian stock markets staged a strong recovery in today’s trading session after ending weak in the previous session, with both BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 closing significantly higher. The market opened on a positive note with a gap-up and witnessed broad-based buying across sectors, except for the IT segment.

The Nifty 50 touched an intraday high of 24,074.05 before closing at 24,050.60, gaining 275.50 points. Meanwhile, the Sensex surged by 918.60 points to settle at 77,550.25 at the end of the trading session.

Among the major gainers on the Sensex were Asian Paints, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, InterGlobe Aviation, Axis Bank and State Bank of India. On the other hand, stocks like Sun Pharma, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra and HCLTech ended lower.

On the Nifty index, gains were led by Asian Paints, Eicher Motors, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto and Shriram Finance, while declines were seen in Coal India, Sun Pharma, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and Tech Mahindra.

Sector-wise, auto, capital goods, consumer goods, realty, power, FMCG, PSU banks, metals, and private banks recorded gains of 1% to 2%, while the IT index declined by around 1.7%. Midcap and smallcap indices also performed strongly, rising approximately 1.5% each.

On a weekly basis, both the Sensex and Nifty gained nearly 6%, marking their best weekly performance since February 2021 and ending a six-week losing streak.

Among individual stocks, Wipro rose 1% after announcing plans to consider a share buyback. Dev Information Technology gained 7% after securing a contract worth ₹26 crore, while Power Mech Projects surged 9% following a ₹296 crore order win. Shares of Tata Consultancy Services fell 2.5% after announcing its fourth-quarter results.

HDFC Life Insurance rose 2% ahead of a board meeting on April 16 to consider fundraising plans. Godrej Properties gained 1.5% after reporting record pre-sales bookings for FY2026. Eicher Motors climbed 3.2% following the launch of its first electric two-wheeler.

RailTel Corporation of India rose 2% after securing a ₹23.18 crore order, while Shriram Finance gained 3% after CRISIL upgraded its long-term credit rating to ‘AAA’.

More than 100 stocks, including Adani Energy Solutions, ABB India, Hitachi Energy India, Cummins India, Titan Company, MCX India, Anand Rathi and Natco Pharma hit their 52-week highs on the BSE.

According to market data, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹1,711.19 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth ₹955.90 crore. Meanwhile, international crude oil prices rose by 0.57% to $96.47 per barrel.
