Typhoon Saudel has brought torrential rain and severe flooding to China's southern coastal provinces, particularly Fujian and Guangdong, causing disruption in several areas.
In Fujian province, flooding triggered by continuous heavy rainfall led to the collapse of a three-storey building in Jinxi village. Video footage verified by Reuters showed the building collapsing into the floodwaters.
In Fuding city, emergency responders rescued elderly residents who were trapped in waist-deep floodwaters. Rescue teams were deployed in several affected areas as rising water levels created dangerous conditions for residents.
The heavy rainfall and flooding have also disrupted normal life across affected parts of the region. Local authorities have closed schools, suspended public transport and implemented emergency flood-response measures.
In Putian, floodwaters spilled onto major roads, damaged bridge structures and inundated residential buildings. Authorities have also been organising rescue operations to evacuate people trapped by the flooding, while some residents were reported missing.
Typhoon Saudel made its third landfall along the Fujian coast on September 3 after strengthening again over the South China Sea. According to Reuters, Saudel is the seventh typhoon to hit China in 2026.
The continuing heavy rainfall has also raised concerns about secondary disasters, including landslides and further flooding, as rivers in affected areas have risen above warning levels.
Authorities remain on alert as heavy rain continues to affect parts of China's southern coastal region.
