A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly conducting illegal lottery gambling and collecting money from customers through WhatsApp groups near the Ukkadam New Bus Stand in Coimbatore.
Based on confidential information, Ukkadam police conducted a surprise inspection near the bus stand toilets. Police reportedly found a man using a mobile phone to record lottery numbers and collect money from customers based on Kerala lottery results.
During the investigation, police identified the man as Piyasteen, 33, from Asad Nagar in Karumbukadai. He was reportedly staying in the K.G. Layout area of Ukkadam.
Police seized two smartphones allegedly used for recording lottery numbers and carrying out money transactions. Inspector Gomathi registered a case in connection with the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged illegal lottery gambling operation conducted through WhatsApp groups.
