Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 14 Tamil Nadu Districts as Temperatures Expected to Drop

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorms across 14 districts in Tamil Nadu on May 7, along with a gradual fall in temperatures over the coming days.

The Meteorological Department has announced that heavy rainfall is likely in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu today (May 7) due to prevailing atmospheric conditions over the region.

According to the weather department, an atmospheric circulation is currently prevailing over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep areas at an altitude of around 1.5 km above sea level.

Additionally, a trough extends from the southeast Arabian Sea off the south Kerala coast and adjoining Lakshadweep region to southwest Madhya Pradesh through interior Karnataka and Maharashtra at an altitude of around 0.9 km above sea level.

Due to these conditions, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on May 7.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph is likely at isolated places in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari.

On May 8, similar weather conditions are expected in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, and Karaikal regions.

The weather department also stated that maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to gradually decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius between May 7 and May 11.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy today (May 7) and tomorrow (May 8). Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in some parts of the city.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 28 degrees Celsius.
