Tamil Nadu to Introduce Digital Driving Licence and Digital RC from September 15, 2026
Tamil Nadu is set to introduce Digital Driving Licence and Digital Vehicle Registration Certificate (Digital RC) services across the state from September 15, 2026.
Under the new system, applicants who successfully pass their driving test will receive their Digital Driving Licence on the same day. This is expected to reduce the waiting period for receiving a physical driving licence card.
Similarly, owners of newly registered vehicles will be able to download their Digital RC online.
The digital documents will feature a QR code that government offices and authorized organizations can scan to verify the document details online. If the documents are lost or damaged, they will also be available for re-download and printing.
In addition, the “Anywhere Registration/Licensing” system, which allows vehicle registration and driving licence-related services without depending exclusively on a particular office, is set to be introduced gradually.
The September 15 announcement refers to the introduction and statewide rollout of these digital services.
