Trump Sparks Controversy with Remarks on India, Later Calls It a Great Nation
Donald Trump faces backlash after sharing controversial remarks about India and China, later praising India as a great nation.
Donald Trump sparked controversy after sharing a social media post containing critical remarks about India and China, but later shifted his stance by praising India as a great nation.
The post, originally made by Michael Savage, included strong and controversial opinions regarding immigration and citizenship policies in the United States. It alleged that people from countries like India and China travel to the US for childbirth to secure citizenship for their children, and criticized existing citizenship laws.
Trump reshared the post on his social media platform, drawing widespread reactions and criticism. The remarks also reignited debates around birthright citizenship, an issue Trump has previously opposed, with related matters currently under consideration by the US Supreme Court.
Following the backlash, the US diplomatic side clarified that Trump views India positively. According to the US Embassy, Trump described India as a “great country” led by a good friend, signaling a more favorable stance after the initial controversy.
Responding to the issue, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, stated that the remarks circulating online were misleading and did not reflect the true nature of India-US relations. He emphasized that such comments do not represent the strength of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The incident highlights the sensitivity of international relations in the age of social media, where statements can quickly escalate into diplomatic discussions.
