TVK Leader Vijay to Meet Governor Arlekar to Stake Claim for Forming Government in Tamil Nadu

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay is expected to meet Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday afternoon to formally stake claim to form the government in the state, according to reports.

Vijay has reportedly sought an appointment with Governor Arlekar at the Raj Bhavan in Guindy at 3:30 PM. Sources indicate that TVK plans to seek permission to form the government as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, despite not securing an absolute majority on its own.

In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay’s TVK secured victory in 108 constituencies, emerging as the largest individual party. However, the party fell short of the majority mark, leading to reports that it is seeking support from parties including the Congress.

Meanwhile, during a meeting of newly elected MLAs held at the TVK office in Panaiyur on Tuesday, Vijay was unanimously elected as the leader of the TVK Legislature Party.

Reports also suggest that preparations are underway for Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister, which is expected to take place tomorrow at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

As part of the government formation process, Vijay is likely to request the Governor for one or two weeks’ time to prove his majority on the Assembly floor.

In the election results, the DMK alliance won 73 seats, while the AIADMK alliance secured 53 constituencies.
