Coimbatore Launches ‘Singappen Pink Booths’ to Strengthen Women’s Safety
A new initiative aimed at strengthening women’s safety has been introduced in Coimbatore with the launch of the ‘Singappen Pink Booth’ project.
The initiative is designed to provide women with an accessible point to seek assistance and report safety concerns. One of the key features of the Pink Booth is the availability of women police officers, enabling women to approach them directly and submit complaints.
The booths also offer a QR-based digital complaint facility. Women can scan the QR code and use the digital system to report their concerns, providing an additional way to seek assistance.
An SOS facility has also been included as part of the initiative. During an emergency, women can use the SOS option to contact the police control room and patrol teams for immediate assistance.
The ‘Singappen Pink Booth’ initiative will initially operate at Hope College Junction and in R.S. Puram. These two locations will serve as the first points where women can access the facilities provided under the project.
The initiative is also intended to encourage women to seek help at an early stage. Women facing threats, harassment or stalking do not have to wait until a crime occurs before approaching the authorities for assistance.
Women who need emergency assistance can also use the available helpline numbers. The Women Helpline can be reached at 1091, while the Police Control Room can be contacted at 100. The Tamil Nadu Women Helpline is available at 181.
The combination of direct access to women police officers, QR-based digital complaints and SOS assistance is aimed at making it easier for women to report concerns and seek support when they feel unsafe.
With the first Pink Booths coming up at Hope College Junction and R.S. Puram, the initiative provides additional avenues for women in Coimbatore to approach the authorities and seek timely assistance.
The project highlights the importance of seeking help before a situation escalates. Women experiencing threats, harassment or stalking can approach the available support systems instead of waiting for the situation to become a serious incident.
