Heavy Water Flow in Courtallam Falls as Continuous Rain Hits Tenkasi; Bathing Restrictions Imposed

Continuous drizzle and seasonal rainfall in the Courtallam region of Tenkasi district have significantly increased water flow in all major waterfalls, prompting authorities to impose bathing restrictions at certain locations as a precautionary measure.

Since the start of the annual Courtallam tourism season, the region has been receiving consistent showers, resulting in a substantial rise in water inflow across the area's famous waterfalls. As a result, water is cascading heavily through popular attractions including Main Falls, Five Falls, Old Courtallam Falls, Tiger Falls, and Small Falls.

Authorities had already prohibited bathing at Main Falls due to ongoing maintenance work. Meanwhile, bathing at Old Courtallam Falls was suspended earlier this week after water flow increased considerably, with restrictions continuing for the fourth consecutive day.

With rainfall persisting across the region, water levels have continued to rise, leading officials to impose a fresh bathing ban at Five Falls as well. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of visitors amid the strong flow of water.

The restriction disappointed several tourists who had arrived hoping to enjoy a bath at Five Falls but were unable to do so due to safety measures.

However, visitors were still permitted to bathe at selected locations, including Old Courtallam, Small Falls, and Tiger Falls, where conditions remained suitable for public access. Large numbers of tourists were seen enjoying the waterfalls at these locations.

Courtallam, often referred to as the "Spa of South India," attracts thousands of visitors every year during the monsoon season. Authorities continue to closely monitor water levels and weather conditions and have urged tourists to follow safety instructions while visiting the waterfalls.

With rainfall expected to continue in parts of the Western Ghats region, officials are likely to review the restrictions based on water flow and weather conditions in the coming days.
